Used this unit with a well grounded turntable but still experienced a very audible hum. Incidentally, the turntable was previously used with an "xitel inport" and exhibited absolutely no hum so my sense is that the Pyle Preamp is the problem and not the turntable itself. Repackaged it and put on the shelf. Go the xitel route and save the dollars and grief.
This item is essential for anyone who wants to use an older vintage turntable to play their LP's through a modern amplification setup that does not have the old "Phono" jacks but do have the "Aux" inputs. This item performs very well and the price here on Amazon was the lowest on the internet that I could find and I am very happy with it and use it almost everyday. The only way it could be better is if it ran on a battery versus having an outlet cord.
The Pyle Pro RIAA phono preamp works as advertised, right out of the box. Good clean sound, but should have a ground lug on the input side to attach the ground wire from the phono to eliminate 60 Hz hum. I use an alligator clip on the shield of the RCA phono input plugs.
A great deal for the price, with the only drawback being that now there is yet another wall wart behind my A/V console.I'm using this with a very ordinary receiver and a Revolver turntable (red). I attached the turntable's ground wire to my receiver's chassis, and this got rid of the ground hum. If your receiver does not have a metal chassis, you may have fun figuring out where to attach the ground wire, but otherwise it's a no-brainer. And, voila, my turntable is "Video 1".
i purchased thispre-amp to replace a tc-750 from[.]., that the post office mysteriously lost, i thought it would be something to use in the mean time. please avoid this item at all costs. it does not work, and has a really nasty hum that you cannot get rid of. this has to be biggest piece of crapi've bought from amazon in a long time, and unfortunately i missed the return date, so i could not return it. please, save your money and go for some thing better.this is really apiece of s***.
